Voices Over the Horizon: Tales from Cable and Wireless
A vast resource of information: eye-witness accounts of historical travel, geography, communications, wars and disasters.
The company's life, and life with the company, from the 1940s to the 1970s.
By turns funny, sad, admirable, frightening, foolhardy, adventurous and romantic.
What better way to record the history of a groundbreaking communications company than through the voices of its people: the company's pioneers, who set up the communications networks in far-flung areas of the world, and kept them going against the odds?
Cable & Wireless approved of this innovative approach and commissioned an oral history, Voices Over the Horizon. BPC handled every stage, from selecting the author, Dr David Souden, and designing and copy-editing the book, through to publishing, publicity, warehousing and distribution.
Voices of Change, a second volume covering Cable & Wireless' privatisation from the early 1970s up to the present day, has been produced by BPC.
